ULI-LA HOMELESSNESS SUMMIT 3.0

ULI-LA's Homelessness Summit 3.0 addressed housing innovation to tackle LA's homelessness crisis. It brought together a diverse group to find solutions for increased housing and reduced homelessness.

David Renard, RPM’s President, was asked to share a case study of a project that provided creative shelter for those needing to navigate a transition from emergency to longer-term housing. The case study presented, Stockton Shelter, provides 180 beds in 13,000 square feet on a site with a five-year lease. The site’s short lease requires the entire project to be moved to a new location if the lease it not renewed, resulting in the need for relocatable structures, a challenge when you need to build vertically because of site constraints. The shelter addresses the needs of interim and emergency guests, the chronically unhoused, the recently dispossessed, veterans, seniors, individuals, and families. During the presentation, David, on behalf of RPM, explored every sensitive consideration to ensure the shelter population has been given a pathway to wellness and re-assimilation.

RPM Team, LLC builds interim and emergency housing on the challenging sites that are most commonly available for this housing typology. Operating as both a consultant for housing programs and a turnkey design firm involved in developing and constructing Navigation Shelters, RPM specializes in pre-engineered and prefabricated structures. RPM’s goal is to remove and reduce barriers to constructing facilities for the unhoused by lowering construction costs through design, reduce operating costs through design and enriching the experience for the residents through trauma informed design.
