Veterans Village
Veterans Hall is a non-profit devoted to housing and treating homeless veterans in Santa Cruz. Veterans Hall received a grant to expand their Veterans Village site which is supported by the federal government’s Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program and California’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) office. HCD creates rental and homeownership opportunities for Californians from all walks of life, including veterans, seniors, young families starting out, people with disabilities, farmworkers, and individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness.
Veterans Hall first hired a local architect to put the site design together but called RPM to help source the correct housing for this project. RPM is familiar working with HCD grants and is experienced sourcing products from manufacturers of prefabricated and modular buildings that are compliant with HUD and HCD guidelines. RPM ran a bid amongst their network with 7 possible manufacturers resulting with the best possible product for the site a 1 bedroom ensuite unit from Legacy Modular. Legacy modular will provide the design build component of engineering and fabrication for the project. All units that are HUD, HCD, and ADA compliant.
UPDATE: All units are finished, but the site has not received the permit from the architect, this is an example of prefabrication construction’s rapid solution to urgent housing needs. The unites are finished, their drawings and engineering is approved but the site is yet to be fully approved and mobilized.
