Yakima Union Gospel Mission Shelter Expansion
Located in Yakima, central Washington, YUGM operates a large faith-based shelter out of a renovated motel that includes the largest health and dental facility for the homeless in the state of Washington. Wanting to expand their Good News Cafe and dormitory space they relied on RPM to develop their building program for their 1-acre site and future remodel of their existing motel buildings. RPM specified Sprung Structures for their energy efficiency, tall ceilings, and cost per square foot. The site could only fit two Sprungs that are connected by an intermediary connecting structure that also contains the site's restroom and shower facilities. One building contains sleeping dormitories, medical respite, and staff quarters for management and laundry services. The other building contains the services areas with staff offices, breakrooms, a commercial kitchen, lab space, a library, a women's room, and one large, great open day and communal living space. Between the two sprung and the CMU brick-and-mortar buildings, there is a small outdoor pavilion area.
